Description

As the governing body of a public library, library trustees often have to handle situations involving personnel, public finance, politics, and other issues that could have significant consequences if dealt with incorrectly. This session will delve into board responsibilities and limits with respect to governing these situations, and a trustee's relationship and responsibility towards the Director, staff, the friends' group, their municipality and their fellow board members.

Participants will:
1) Be able to recognize their responsibilities and limits as public officials charged with the care of the library.

2) Be able to identify key requirements of the Open Meetings Act as it applies to Public Library Board Meetings.

3) Understand how libraries are funded and the significance of managing public funds.
