This session will cover the basic information newly appointed or elected library trustees should know in order to begin their tenure governing a public library.

Description

Public Library Trustees come from a wide array of experiences and professions. Many have never held public office before. The duties of a Michigan library trustee can be daunting. This session introduces what it means to be a library trustee and how public libraries are formed and governed in Michigan.

This session will cover the basic information newly appointed or elected library trustees should know in order to begin their tenure governing a public library.

Participants in this session will:
1) Learn the duties and responsibilities of Library Trustees.

2) Understand the library's role as a public entity.

3) Know where to find additional information and answers to questions that they may have as they adjust to their new positions.
